Last year (06) I participated in a medical research study for which I was reimbursed for time and travel.?

Yesterday (02/02/07) they sent me a 1099-misc for 700.00. How can I dispute this with them, or the IRS? Is there a form? Is it too late? I would assume they have already sent a copy to the IRS.

The monies that your were paid are taxable income, but how you report it varies depending on what box this is reported in. If it is reported in box 3 then it would be reported as Other Income on line 21 of the 1040. If it is reported in any other box you need to read the instructions on the back of the 1099-misc for the box in question. Unless you are making participation your Trade or Business, then you would have to claim it as Self employment income and complete the Schedule C-ez as stated above.

If you have further questions call the Internal Revenue Service at

1-800-829-1040
Reply:The best way to do this without having to fight anyone is to file along with your 1040, a Schedule C (Self-Employed Income). Put the amount that is on the 1099-MISC as gross income and then put how much you actually paid in travel on the line that says travel expense. It should end up being a wash meaning they gave you 700 and you paid 700. You will not be taxed but it will still be reported.

When you fill out the Schedule C on the line that says principal business activity just put "Reimbursed Expenses" and where it says Business Code put "999999" which means unable to classify. I've had to do this before and the IRS hasnt questioned me.
Reply:it's income.. pay your taxes
Reply:It's taxable income. You can't dispute it!

You can deduct legitimate business (such as travel, meals %26amp; lodging) expenses from it on Schedule C but the net amount is taxable for both income taxes and self-employment taxes. File Schedule SE to calculate the the SE tax, currently 15.3% on the net profit.

Tip: If you claim the whole $700 as travel expense, be prepared to prove it! A mileage log kept at the time as well as receipts for any fares will be needed to justify the deduction. If you "wash" it as another poster suggested it's likely that the IRS will ask for proof. If it's legit, go for it, but don't try to scam it.
Reply:The problem is that what they paid you is considered income. You cant deduct the mileage unless it was for a charitable cause. They have reported the $700 to the IRS and you need to include the amount on your return and pay taxes. If you have some money you can open a tax deductible IRA and make a contribution, then deduct it from your taxes to offset the extra income. You have until APril 17, 2007 to do that. Otherwise, you have to claim the money and pay tax on it. Good luck.

Can I get research funding for my unusual medical treatment?

Can and how much could I get for specialised treatment that probably has not been done before?

Also, what do I need to know about Informed Consent?

Can I get research funding for my unusual medical treatment?
Go to the following website.

http://www.dest.gov.au/sectors/research_...

Its the Australian Government site for research.

You can get details on how to apply for funding for research there.

However I thiink that you have more of a chance at getting funding if you are part of a larger organisation, like a University.

Does the end justify the means? Should we not use medical research and methods just because people were killed

The nazis discovered many medical advances and procedures but killed prisoners to find it. So did the Japs and many other countries. Even the US let hundreds of blacks suffer from VD just to follow its progress. Should we use this information or not because of the horrific way it was found. Do we give approval of these torture methods by accepting and using the results, or do we give thanks to the men, women and children who died and use this info so their deaths won't be in vain?

Does the end justify the means? Should we not use medical research and methods just because people were killed
that's tough to decide weather the end justifies the means. if we don't use the info then all those people died for nothing if we use that info we save other people and some people might think that means we support how it came to be. either way i say since we can't erase the past use that info save people and just make it clear that we don't believe the information was obtained in the right way but it won't waste it either. that's the best answer i can give you.
Reply:so, if someine held a person, your mother for example, captive, with a gun to her head and 1000 people in a cage with nerve gas about to be released, who would you choose? most certainly the end justifies the means. the U.S. howevere much i don't like it, let those blacks die to follow its progress, AND LEARN HOW TO FIGHT THE DISEASE! if there is a cure to AIDS, then i'm sure that other people will feel the same way once it's procured.
Reply:We honor those who died. Not to use the information would be a waste, even though we don't agree on how it was obtained.
Reply:No. The information would have been found

(and in fact has been) in ways that did not dehumanize, torture, and kill.

The end does not always -- and perhaps not often -- justify the means.
Reply:Of course the ends justify the means!

However I'd say if there is some risky experement that could kill the person why not use those on Death Row! If they die well who cares they were sentenced to die anyway! This would also save the tax payers money!

The plus side is that we could discover the cure for something that could save hundreds, thousadns, or millions of lives!

Given the large numbers in prison today why not use them to help society? It isn't as if they are any use to us as they are!

medicine

Let's say you could control medical research funds... please read on?

By controlling medical research funds, you are in a position to guarantee that a cure will be found in 15 years for any disease you chose. Unfortunately, no progress on any others would be made. Would you choose to target one disease?

Let's say you could control medical research funds... please read on?
I wouldn't target any one disease. Diseases aren't the central problem. There are countless possible microbes which can cause disease, and it doesn't make sense to develop vaccines and cures for each one.

Instead, I'd put all of the funds into researching a way to greatly strengthen the human immune system. This might involve stem cell research, pharmaceuticals, or nanotechnology.
Reply:If i could only choose one disease to cure and not spread the research funding over several diseases, then i would definitely settle with one. i'd pick cancer.
Reply:That's an interesting question.

Curing something, anything would be good.

Too much research funding goes into finding a new treatment that will never cure the patient, just control the symptoms so they can buy more medicine for the rest of their life.
Reply:Great question!!! I think that these medical research funds should be monitored. I believe there are many of these companies who are taking down big bucks to no avail! Where does all the money go??? In their silver lined pockets! I refuse to support any of them. With the kind of money that comes into them you'd think they'd have a cure but that would mean they'd be out of a job!!! Poor excuse in my book!
Reply:Unfortunately most research funds are from private corporations, specifically pharmaceutical companies, thus, are investing their resources for a projected profits in the future when their researches clicks.

As a God believer would you give a chance to medical research to save peoples life?

I am repeating this question because i did not get much response from God believer.Dear god believers is it too

hard to say yes or no.it is not very difficult question.Do not

be embarrassed dear friends, say yes or no please.I do want

maximum response from all of you.

As a God believer would you give a chance to medical research to save peoples life?
Sure, why not? Would you not expect people who believe in God to want to utilize medical research and technology to save people's lives?
Reply:Certainly, but not at the cost of human life (i.e. embryo

research).
Reply:So, you are saying that those who believe in God are restricted to a "yes" or "no" answer. One does not find much of that in this section. As a God believer, I would say "yes", but not at the expense of killing kids or another.
Reply:Are you talking about the stem cell experiments?

The concept kind of freaks me; but not on a religious level.

I just think it is playing with nature one step too far.

From a religious point of view I have absolutely no problem.
Reply:Yes! Why wouldn't we.
Reply:My religion (Islam) teaches that human life is extremely important, more so than that of animals even, because a human has the power to save many, many animals if he or she wants to, whereas animals cannot (though of course, that is no reason to mistreat animals). Medical research, if done for the sole purpose of saving human lives, is totally allowed.
Reply:Yes I would
Reply:Why would someone with true faith not give a chance to medical research. it has been happening for hundreds of years, and just about every person on the planet has benefited from it whether they like it or not, in fact millions would have died if it had not taken place.

The thing has nothing to do with GOD, man does this with the knowledge he had gained, and it's only the lack of more knowledge that makes them scared to go further so they use God as an excuse.

I believe that no matter what when your time is up it's up, no matter what.
Reply:Yes, it's an easy question. No difficulty OR embarrassment involved.

Of COURSE I support medical research! God gave us science and He gave us brains. And He expects us to USE them both so that we can take care of the world He has given us.
Reply:It's what you need .
Reply:Medical research is perfectly acceptable as long as it isn't taking a life(embryo included) to do so. God believers as you call them are more than happy to hear of new medical breakthroughs and research to help people. Just not when it interferes with God's word and laws.
Reply:if i had the option why not ~ if i lived to a ripe old wrinkly then would there be a point~
Reply:No.

I do not put my trust in men but in the coming Kingdom of God.
Reply:Sorry yr life needs saving
Reply:For sure!!!! As long as it doesn't involve cloning or anything like that... I go to the Doctor just like anyone else!!! After all God did give them knowledge~
Reply:As long as it is ethical.

I don't have a problem with science or medicine in the

correct context.

I go to doctors, don't always trust them fully

for good reason, though.

I pray and take medicine and take responsibility

for health.

Not sure what your motivation is or where

you are going with this question.
