Instead of being killed? in that this way they have the option of remaining alive for the purposes of medical research and they are benfitting society?
What do you think?
Do you think that prisoners on the death row should be given the option to be guinea pigs for research?
i think its a bit like recycling tbh, but theres always going to be a catch.
You use the convict to test medicine for the better of the rest society and if they die then its not a problem since they were going to be killed anyway. Good right?
WAIT(heres the catch)
However i think there should be some sort of catchment time, because, dont quote me on this because Im not sure, cant people be saved from Death row if someone else confesses to the crime? so it should be like within a month or something otherwise there is still a chance that the person could be taken off death row.
AND the conditions need to be controlled for that to happen, e.g no chance of escape or hurting anyone, so the prisoner being up for it is a plus.
The prisoner COULD in turn recieve publicity and be mentioned in medical journals if they were the subject for something that turned out to be a cure for e.g Lung/breast Cancer, which could possibly turn their lives around for the better.
THINK about the bunnies, they deserve to live, wheras for some of these people on Death Row, the same cannot be said.
Reply:No, not only is it cruel and unusual punishement but criminals would be more motivated to be less afraid of committing crime.
One of them in the future could probably say: "If I get locked up, maybe I'll be like that guy (X) who proved that this medication can cure cancer, etc..."
When someone dies of a research study, we scientists like to classify them as people who dedicated their lives or even sacrificed themselves in the line or to the field of research and a cure. I wouldn't want a criminal to take this honor. It will be against the law, as I learned in law school.
Reply:I think that the ideas of Joseph Mengala are alive and well.
He used Jewish children in the second world war a live subjects. He used to test new medicines and operate on them without anaesthetic to see what would happen.
I think your suggestion is very cruel and not something I would ever like to see happen with public or government consent.
Reply:that is a really good idea, as long as they would be completly controled and have no way of doing anything to anyone,, becase it would help the world nd it would possibly save thier lifes,, but they still have chnce of fying,, i think that that is a genious idea, yo usould like write a letter about it to soemone lol
Reply:I live in California. Our so-called "death penalty" is a big joke. I think that prisoners on death row should be given the option of getting executed, because it never seems to happen.
Reply:I don't think they should be given any choice in the matter, unless of course they can pay for the cost of keeping them in jail. The medical companies could reimburse the states this way.
Reply:My God NO! that's what they do in Commi Chna, and that's what the Germany Nazi's did to P.O.Ws in WW!!, I think we have seen enough of this kind of human butchery, you should read your history more.
Reply:Nope---the problem is who supervises those experiments and there is too much possibility of abuse by those who conduct the experiments....
Reply:yes,,a good idea,,for medical research.mary.c.
Reply:The bad thing about that is it kind of forces people to be guinea pigs. It would be pretty hard to turn down if you're facing the chair or lethal injection.
Reply:Yes i think this is a great answer why the hell should the poor animals be used for medical research when they are human bodies out there that dont deserve to live
Reply:yes make them some use, medical or space , but you must have cast iron conviction
Reply:Definately, at least they are of some use that way.
Plus they may die quicker, some people hang about on death row for YEARS.
Reply:Death row should be abolished.
Reply:Not instead of being executed. They could be used for research as long as it kills them.
Reply:No, they should get the option of life imprisonment.
Reply:Yes i do! That way they will still suffer but they will also help to increase the knowledge of medicines and products!
Reply:Many choose to be used for medical science after death...but not before...that would be rather cruel.
Reply:OH definately, you get a star for this, very good question and i totally agree.lolx
Reply:Good idea
Reply:that sounds pretty inhumane to me..
Reply:Brilliant idea. Make good use of them
Reply:thats not a idea because then they will be forced to help man kind and they will suffer
Reply:sounds good but the do gooders wont like it
Reply:I don't reall y care one bit .
Reply:i personally think that they should get what they deserve
Reply:that's the most sensible idea I've seen on yahoo answers...so no!!...( your making too much sense)
Reply:Absolutely - we gain, they don't have to die...
But then again, what about the families of the victims of murders? I'm talking about *serial* murderers. From the crime programmes I've seen on TV (I'm sure they're not particularly representative), some Americans have an "eye for an eye" mentality, so I'm not sure if this would go down well with them.
Maybe the prisoner should be allowed to choose BUT the family gets to veto it if they don't approve.
EDIT: Apollo - I'm not sure this is "human butchery" if the convict gets a say. Besides, drugs aren't allowed to be tested on humans unless we're sure they're safe anyway. The death rate would be pretty low.
(Technically it'd only be "butchery" if they were cut up, but I won't be pedantic...)
