Does anyone know of any cases where people have died or been injured participating in medical research?

I'm not sure about research, but I saw a statistic where


prescription drugs are the 4th leading cause of death.

Does anyone know of any cases where people have died or been injured participating in medical research?
Off hand I can't think of any cases where people have died during actual research, but the long term ramifications and what happens to them years down the line would be interesting to know.





I just wanted to comment on the previous posters assertion that prescription medications are the 4th leading cause of death in the country - wrong, actually the 4th leading cause of death is accidental injury. Prescription drugs are not even in the top ten (or 20).
