Hi, I'm a junior in high school and I would like to do science research. I live in New Jersey and tried to search for any, but can't find any universities/hospitals that have this kind of program available for high school students. Do you know any way that I can start doing research? I know I can call a researcher and ask if he/she would like to support me, but how would I go about that process. I'm looking for an internship for this sort of research or really anything that has to do with the medical field. Thank you for your help.
Medical research/ internship?
Basically the way I did it was to call up labs to see if they have openings or simply walk in and drop off your CV (make sure you include a cover letter with a small message about yourself and why you want to intern with that particular PI) with the lab secretary. The success rate is low but the rewards outweigh the work required by far. The phone call is actually pretty informal. Just introduce yourself and ask if they have room for a high school student to help out. Lots of PIs in medicine like having high school or undergraduate research assistants because they don't have to pay them (grant money is scarce these days). As a high school student you aren't expected to know much so don't worry if there isn't much to write on your CV. Really all that matters is your interest in the subject.
