Is there anywhere that does research in unusual medical aliments ?

I realise most research being government funded explores common health problem but I'm wondering if theres any institutes anywhere that explore unusal or unheard of aliments in the world.

I dont mean disease but actual medical symptoms that perhaps even challange what is widely accepted or written in medical textbooks.

Is there anywhere that does research in unusual medical aliments ?
a researcher on charlie rose is examined the yeast cell,or bud,,,,which he declared a harmless, innocuous, organism often present in humans, went on for a half hour describing the life %26amp; times of this critter,,,,,his conclusion is at odds with a segment of healthcare that treats patients for everything from addhd,to asthma, food allergies, ptsd, these mds are have been around for 30 years,,,,,A a researcher starts out on his own,,,,,maybe feeling an objective mind set,,and overlooks something important,,,,,,B objective research there may or may not be,but pharmaceautical companies would love to keep making money by getting exclusivity in making drugs for diseases.these guys have the money for basic research and spend it where there is likely a return on their investment
Reply:Most research doctors love to study unusual ailments as it leads to fame and money. There may not be an organization around it, but there usually is a doctor studying it and producing research papers on it. These papers may lead to grants, which hospitals and universities like.

The challenge will be to find the doctor researching your ailment.
Reply:Probably many universities do so...Most institutions have there own website w/ a link to their research that will usually explain what they are researching.
