Is the use of stem cells in medical research ethical?

It has to be the future, if we are ever going to reach our full potential as a species and get off this rock and start exploring the universe.

Is the use of stem cells in medical research ethical?
Yes. If we did not experiment we would still be walking round dragging our knuckles on the ground and eating our next cave neighbour.
Reply:my wife found out she has leukemia ( cancer of the blood) in feb this year .she was told she has 3 years to live without a stem cell transplant..the only way to get rid of it hopefully forever is with a stem cell transplant.without this medical advancement ,she and thousands of people would die..im not into abortion and all that stuff but,i think we as humans need new medical breakthrus in order to help with our ever growing number of diseses and health problems.so my answer is yes it is etical..and life saving..
Reply:I don't think so. It uses for saving life purpose.
Reply:The biggest problem is, and many people don't want to admit it, is that stem cells aren't proven to cure ANYTHING, they are just theoretically able to build as new cells. But if there was any concrete proof don't you think every medical manufacture would be all over getting the rights to the uses of stem cells? the answer is yes, but they aren't bitting, because their is nothing to buy... yet.

Ethical? why not, the aborted fetuses are just gonna be flushed, why not use them for something usefull.
Reply:yes because, if you think about it, if we can regrow tissues, there is a possibility that physical deterioration due to illness would be a thing of the past.

If we can regrow skin cells, then we can regrow tissues, muscles, maybe even bone!
Reply:YES - My mum has a serious brain disease and the only thing that could possibily save her is stem cells, unfortunately as it is taking so long what with all the "ethical issues and what not" treatment will come to late for her, she is only in her 50's
Reply:The only reason you hear about ethics is because there are two types of stem cells: embryonic and adult. So far adult stem cells have shown great promise in the body but they cannot become certain cells. But embryonic stem cells can become anything. They come from aborted embryos so Bush doesn't want to fund for exploring their potential. But I think that since abortion is performed anyway why can't we use the stem cells? If I saw a baby in a burning building and a rack of embryos, I would save the baby are ignore the rack because with current tech the embryos can survive in that state for only 5 to 7 years.
Reply:it depends - if a loved one was going to die or had some terrible disability that could be cured through stem cell research - you would probably think it is the best thing since the invention of the wheel!.
