Are alll the research Medical companies here for our good health?

Or are they here to line the pockets of the people who run them with more money than they need

Are alll the research Medical companies here for our good health?
they are here to make money and support the bush administration
Reply:Neither. Medical companies are just that--companies. They have stock holders, expenses, employees, etc. They are in business to find cures for diseases and to return the profit they get to their stockholders and to the business so that they might find another cure so that they can make profits to pay stockholders, etc. There is nothing wrong in making a profit from a cure to a disease. If there were no profits, there would be no medical companies because there would be no stockholders to pay the expenses while the company is finding a cure. You sound like you believe that anyone who makes money is ripping off others. No, they are putting their money at risk, they could lose their money or not make a profit. All companies have stockholders, the everyday people who are looking for a return on their money. No matter what you have heard Big Business is not bad, it is just a group of people (stockholders) some with a lot of money in the stocks and some that only own a few shares trying to make a profit.
Reply:Medical research companies, especially pharmaceutical companies, are an essential component of the healthcare sector anywhere in the world.

There is no doubt that these companies are out for profit. Think Pfizer and Viagra. They sell each blue pill for 50 bucks when the cost price is less than a hundredth of that. The company then uses the money earned to fund its research for the next wonder drug. If it does not make enough profit, it won't have enough capital to research on its next wonder drug, and that would be the loss to the whole healthcare industry, and as a result, a loss to all the patients in the community.

So you aren't wrong to say that these companies are out for profit, you will also be right to say that these companies are here for our good health. The good news is that the patent that these companies get for their products is time limited. Meaning, the patent will run out after 10 yrs, and any other company out there will be able to produce the drug and sell it real cheap.
Reply:It is a bit of both! Many researchers are very passionate about finding cures, but are almost always hired by companies who want the money.
