I am not sure exactly what you are asking, but will attempt to answer anyway. Many Pharm companies conduct research on the medicinal qualities of plants. It is said that up to 20% of our medicines are derived from plant products. As for research, if you are looking for people searching for new treatments/cures by studying the native medicinal plants of different ethnic groups just look up on line Ethnobotanists. They basically are anthropologists who travel to exotic locations, follow around the natives, and ask them what plant medicines they use. The specimens are then collected and sent back for further research. These can be conducted by university researchers, or by pharmaceutical companies.
