Should animals be used for medical research? Why or Why Not ? (I think Animal Cruelty is wrong)?

I need to know, because idk. because i need to write something about it :D

Should animals be used for medical research? Why or Why Not ? (I think Animal Cruelty is wrong)?
For medical research, yes. Thanks to the sacrifices of many animals, we have been provided with treatments for cancer, AIDS, neurological diseases, rabies, distemper, small pox, anthrax, diabetes, liver and heart disease, genetics, spiral cord injuries, strokes, organ transplants, insulin discovery, polio prevention, etc. Some animal testing has really helped to advance the medical field (for both humans AND animals). I don't like to think about the animals being tested on and dying, but animal testing has done a lot to help other animals and humans. Without some animal (and human) testing, we could never learn about certain diseases and how to treat or even cure them, so it's not always a bad thing. I will NEVER support unnecessary toxic and cosmetic testing on animals, but for medical purposes, I believe it's done A LOT of good for people AND animals.
Reply:Sadly,I think it is necessary. I am not advocating harming animals, but if we did'nt use them for testing, our only feasible alternative would be human guinea pigs and lets be honest, if you believe in God and the bible, animals are here for our use. The question to ask yourself is what if your child or someone you loved needed a treatment, but it had not been tested yet. Would you have it tested on your child or the animal?
Reply:Animal cruelty in the form of animal testing is barbaric but sadly there is nothing we can do to stop it,

there are good arguments both sides but it boils down to medical research ,as humans we see animal as a lesser being,i don't and cant stand animal testing and fight it all the way,but with all then disease and cancers that we have people think its easier and safer to test on animals than humans, people think animals are lesser beings and are not the same as humans, the most ironic thing is we are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers and go up in arms when animals are treated cruelly, but then you have animal testing, which is animal cruelty you just can win
Reply:Medical research is NECESSARY. Using animals is NECESSARY. Bottom line. As diseases evolve, so must medical research.
Reply:Pumpkin, if this is homework, it should be posted in the homework section, but that's okay. I'm sure you'll get lots of answers.
Reply:I agree with you.. it is disgusting. So glad that many of the producers are clearly stating that their product was not tested on animals. I refuse to buy anything that has been tested them. Seen some really horrible footage of animals in labs .. feel I could just go over there and subject the research teams to the same indignities, pain and suffering. How can man be so disrespectful towards Mother Nature's creations? Small wonder that this world is falling to pieces around us. We need to stand up and be counted.. actions speak louder than words.
Reply:Most research facilities take good care of their animals, and do not treat them inhumanely. They take care of them and make sure the animals are put down humanely.

Think of it this way: would you like the new drug to be tested on you or on a mouse? There are a lot of different ways a drug can kill, all of them nasty. Would you rather bury a lot of mice or a lot of people?
Reply:If you take medication, if you have ever had a surgery or a vaccine, you can thank animal testing.

If you are opposed to all animal testing no matter what, then you should not use any medicine or medical services as about 90% of it was derived from testing on animals.

It is unfair for someone to interfere with testing that will save lives tomorrow and then to use what was learned with animal testing yesterday.

Do you understand what I mean?

Because of animal testing, we may one day have a cure for AIDS. Because of animal testing of yesterday, diabetics can live much longer and healthier lives. If you are a diabetic and take that medicine but deny future generations a cure, then you are a hypocrite.

I am against any unnecessarily repetitive animal testing and against any animal testing that has already been done.

My dog got a vaccine against parvo because another dog was a test dog in a laboratory. That test dog has saved thousands of other dogs lives.

My cat got a vaccination for feline distemper. That was tested on another cat. Because of that study, thousands of other cats don't die of a dreadful disease.

Does it suck? Sure it does. Should it be as humane as possible? Of course. Unfortunately, until another method is found, animal testing is all we have to work with. After initial testing on animals, many people volunteer for clinical studies and submit themselves to testing that may be dangerous for them.
Reply:I noticed alot of people are agreeing with medical research..and thats fine there opinions..i think we should have a limit of animals that can be or will be tested...as for domestic products NO why do we need more shampoos or conditioners out on the market..thats is strictly business..why do we continue using bunnies or mice, for shampoo or mascara....we already have a well developed domestic line of products..

another thing why do we use bunnies and mice and other animals for testing i keep referring to bunnies and mice because thats what gets tested the most..we(humans) have nothing in common with Bunny's and mice..

I can go on and on on how a monkey eyes were sewn shut simple because they wanted to do a blindness experience..IS THAT MEDICAL???? no

just a thought

There life to them is as precious as our life is to us!!
Reply:I think its wrong...But at the same time I know it has to be done...

I just wish people could be more humane and not treat the animals so badly. There no need to mistreat them in the process.
