Cons of using animals in medical research?

I have a project and I need information about this Cons. Help me please.

Cons of using animals in medical research?
There are a few things.

From an ethical aspect, many forms of animal research is unethical. It involves prodding the animals, and many of them either die during the experimentation or they are forever changed. Imagine if someone caged humans, gave the humans growth hormones to make them grow muscle, prodded them some to see what effects there were, and then let them live out their lives deformed. Granted, the research is more ethical then what it used to be.

From an medical aspect, even if the research shows positive results in animals, the results don't always carry over to humans. A drug might work for a mouse or a rabbit, but won't necessarily work on a human.

Sorry I don't have clean and clear data to give, but a quick search on Google or Pubmed.com should bring up some articles.
Reply:The biggest is that quite often the data don't even apply to humans.

The best medical research for humans would be done on humans; we have prisons FULL of humans, we should use them!
Reply:The cons of using animals in medical research is that we would stop using animals, so no other humans will get the needed cures. This planet won't be so populated, so there will be more room for animals who will be kind to people.
Reply:Cruelty and morality aspect, depending on what the research is. Many times it is a mouse.... in fact hundreds of mice at once. They are poked and prodded and injected with many types of drugs and diseases then their bodies are examined afterward they are dead. There is a lot of good that comes out of doing this type of research though. Another con is that what they are trying to achieve it is not always an accurate representation of what will happen in a human body.
Reply:we should be testing humans.
